PNoy orders action for direct int’l flights At Bacolod-Silay, 6 others

Leonardia’s and Orola’s tandem brought Direct  International  Flights  to Bacolod-Silay airport boosting Local  Tourism. While most of the Bacoleños was asleep at night during the Christmas eve, two of his prominent sons were up and around at the Bacolod-Silay airport welcoming foreign visitors who flew in directly from their country aboard a chartered flight
Bacolod City Congressman Atty. Evelio Leonardia and Region 6 Tourism Council Chairman Atty. John Orola received 194  South Koreans whose chartered flight from INCHEON airport touched down at the Bacolod-Silay airport at round 2:25 in the morning of yesterday. Joining in welcoming the Koreans were heads of the offices of the Civil Aviation Authority Office, Philippine Airlines Station, Bureau of Immigration unit, Bureau of Customs unit and PNP-AVSECOM unit at the airport.
The 194 Koreans will stay (3 ) days in Negros Occidental playing golf, visiting tourist spots, watching cultural shows, feasting on local food and delicacies, and buying local novelty items, mementoes and pastries. Their visit would boost tourism receipts of the province and the city.
As arranged by Mode Tours with the assistance of Orola, who is also the President of the VMA Global College and Traning Centers, Inc., there will be 16 additional direct flights from INCHEON airport to Bacolod-Silay Airport.
This first direct international flight to and fro the Bacolod-Silay Airpot is a dream come true for Leonardia and Orola who had worked together in the Provincial Tourism Office of Negros Occidental way back in their younger days and then once again as top city officials of Bacolod during the latter part of Leonardia’s last term as City Mayor than ended in June 30, 2013.
During the second half of 2013, Leonardia as City Mayor and Orola as City Administrator sent letters of appeals to the President of the Philippines, the Senate President, the Secretary of Tourism and the Commissioner of Bureau of Immigration appealing for the putting up of customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) system at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.
Since then, Leonardia and Orola had persistently knocked at the doors of the Bureau of Immigration and other pertinent government agencies. The efforts have paid off as a CIQ system has been put in place at the Bacolod-Silay Airport.
Leonardia as congressman has secured firm commitments from the Department of Transportation and Communication to upgrade the Bacolod-Silay Airport into an international airport.
With CIQ system in place, the Bacolod-Silay Airport can now accommodate direct international flights coming from foreign countries.
